No More Heroes Developer Unveils New Ultraviolent Sci-Fi Game with Strong Dead Rising Influences
Jun 06, 2025

"Romeo is a Dead Man" mixes all the craziness of "No More Heroes" with everything from "Dead Rising" and is thus the action game from Grasshopper Manufacture. The combat in this one was crazy; it was all No More Heroes, and then there were also zombie fights like in Lollipop Chainsaw.
Their last game was "No More Heroes 3," released in 2021, which yet later got more members for game systems than just the Nintendo Switch. Following this were some ports of oldies but goodies like "Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse," "Lollipop Chainsaw," and "Shadows of the Damned." Now Suda51 is ready to give his next brand-new action game, as weird and clever as fans can expect.
"Romeo is a Dead Man" was aired on June 4 at the PlayStation State of Play event. The game's first look starts with a basic cartoonish family dinner. The doorbell rings, and Romeo, the main fellow, goes and sees one scary zombie outside. That one zombie really hurt him, but in true spirit, his grandpa has invented a gadget to turn him into a cyborg or a "Deadman," as his grandpa fondly called it. This gadget was implanted right in Romeo's eye, beginning with a wild transformation as the zombified head forever turns into a machine.
In 3D form, he slices through waves of zombies with a futuristic sword. The hectic style of combat is reminiscent of Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes, yet Romeo manages to blast some of these monsters with guns too. At one point, it looks like Romeo is fighting in a mall, just like Frank West did in Dead Rising.
The remainder of the clip features Romeo starring in an arcade-style animated 2D skit revealing some games he might play. Perhaps he has a love interest named Juliet, which would be a reference to Shakespeare's tale and Drawn to Life: Lollipop Chainsaw. There's a trailer for the game set to release in 2026 for PlayStation 5. Fans of Suda51's earlier titles might find the wild zombie game entertaining.
