The competitive gaming world was shaken this holiday season as a major esports organization faced a significant departure of talent. On December 25th, five of the six members comprising the core competitive and content creation team for FaZe Clan announced their exits from the brand.
The players, who are prominent figures on platforms like YouTube and Twitch, shared the news directly with their followers on social media. Alexander "FaZe Adapt" Prynkiewicz, a 14-year veteran with the organization, posted an emotional farewell, stating the decision was difficult but necessary. His teammates—Jason "JasonTheWeen" Nguyen, Nick "LacyHimself" Fosco, Jerry "SilkySzn" Woo, and Stable Ronaldo—each confirmed their departures with concise messages.
As of December 26th, only one member of the six-person competitive squad, Josh "YourRage" Maynard, had not announced a departure. The reason behind this collective move has not been officially detailed. Richard "Bank" Bengtson, a co-founder of FaZe Clan, indicated he would speak to the community during a livestream on December 26th to address the situation.
The Evolution of a Gaming Powerhouse
Founded in 2010, FaZe Clan began as a small collective of content creators, originally known as FaZe Sniping, who gained fame for their impressive "Call of Duty" trick shot videos on YouTube. This early focus helped cultivate a distinct culture within the first-person shooter gaming community.
The organization's trajectory expanded significantly around 2012 when it entered the professional esports arena. A pivotal shift occurred a few years later as many creators began producing vlog-style content, with some members living together in collaborative houses to increase their output.

A landmark victory came in 2019 when its players won the inaugural Fortnite World Cup, securing a $3 million prize. The brand's influence attracted major partnerships with companies across consumer goods, automotive, and sports industries. In a historic moment for gaming, FaZe Clan became the first esports organization featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2021.
Navigating Internal Challenges
Despite its public successes, the organization has navigated internal turbulence. Past controversies included member suspensions related to a cryptocurrency scheme. By 2023, the company underwent substantial restructuring, including staff reductions and a change in leadership, culminating in its acquisition by the esports conglomerate GameSquare Holdings.
